Harry 'Haywire' McClintock wrote his first song, the story of "Big Rock Candy Mountain." around the turn of the last century, which was based on fairy tales he had heard growing up, conjuring up images of houses built out of sweet cakes and candy. In this visual adaptation, a scruffy old hobo takes us on a journey around this wonderfully lazy "Hobo's Paradise" where hand-outs grow on bushes, and you can sleep out every night. With beautifully rendered backgrounds and silky smooth animation the Big Rock Candy Mountain is something anyone -- of any age -- will enjoy.1928
Growing up, my Dad, "The Littlest Hobo" listened to this song, which fueled the fires of adventure he couldn't resist -- and the rest, as they say -- is history!
Little Book of Memories, Volume 1 [snippet below]
ONCE a long, long, very long time ago - way back in 1932 - a young boy set out on a great adventure that would change his life forever. This is his story.
At eleven, Maurice was a handsome lad of five-foot two with black, wavy hair; an olive complexion - a gift from his Italian heritage - engaging blue eyes; and a smile that melted your heart.
He had everything anyone could want, except one thing - his birth parents. A childless young couple, James and Bertha Long from Weatherford, Texas had adopted Maurice when he was just nine months old. And, oh, how they loved him. The couple had tried four times to have children, but each time their joy had ended with sorrow. When baby Maurice came into their lives, he was a gift from God - the child of their hearts. He completed their dreams.
Little Maurice was just beginning school when he learned that he was adopted, and it changed his life. No matter how hard he tried to forget about being adopted, he couldnt. He was very sad because he never felt at home again. And no matter how hard his parents tried, no matter what they did for him, and no matter how much they loved him, he was never happy again. And silently, from that day forward, day in and day out, Maurice began to plan his escape to find his real parents...
And so begins"Night Train" (one of the stories in Little Book of Memories, Vol.1 ). Night Train is the adventure of a life time that soon raises more questions than answers for Little Maurice. Come and join in this great, and sometimes frightening adventure as Maurice learns the true meaning of love, and that your "real family" is always found in a place called - home. . .
